ADATA SE730 – Fast & Elegant External SSD Review

Written by

ADATA SE730 is a brand-new super elegant external solid state drive (SSD), which combine the best features of compact and fast. It’s one of the smallest I’ve seen, and it has a blistering speed that few of its rivals can compete. ADATA SE730 is also very rugged that meets IP68 water and dust proof requirements plus military-spec shock proofing for peace of mind wherever you go.

The SE730 is quite simply the most compact external SSD currently available. It’s available in only one capacity, 250GB. Very well made with premium materials, including a gorgeous textured metallic exterior. This isn’t just a super-fast and compact external SSD, it’s also a luxurious accessory that’ll make you proud.

The ADATA SE730 is in a compact size with 2.9 x 1.7 x 0.5 inches, so you can put it in a small pocket or a sandwich bag. You won’t even notice it, since it weighs just 2.9 ounces. But it’s always ready when you need it, plus it definitely leaves an impression.

The ADATA SE730 comes with built-in industrial-grade MLC NAND Flash, higher quality than many drives which use TLC. As a result, the SE730 delivers a consistently impressive read and write. Its quality flash memory maintains over a long product lifespan so your investment is protected and assured to guarantee optimized performance, stability, and durability.

Behind one of the plastic end caps is a USB-C connector, which supports USB 3.1 Gen 2. This is the latest USB standard, capable of up to 10Gb/s (1250MB/s). That’s the theoretical speed, of course, and ADATA claims racing up to 500MB/s in read and write from the SE730. This means you can take just 16 sec to transfer a 5GB file, which is a typical size of full HD movie. That’s four times faster than the average external hard drive.

It has a three-year warranty (many drives come with only two years) and is IP68 certified. This means the ADATA SE730 offers complete protection against dust and particulates and continues operating normally even when submerged in 1.5m of water for 60 minutes.

ADATA says it’s shockproof to meet the MIL-STD-810G 516.6 military standards, so it will shrug off the odd drop onto concrete. With true military-grade shock resistance, your data is safe even if you’re stressed and happen to drop the SE730.

You can use it with an Android phone that supports OTG, though you’ll need a separate USB-C to Micro-USB cable as only a short full-size USB cable is provided. There’s no encryption, so if you need to store and carry sensitive data, this isn’t the best choice.

The downside is only the price, we expect the price will drop soon because it’s so new and not widely available. However, while it’s more expensive than a lot of external SSDs, the extra cost is worth it as for blazing performance and industrial-grade features.

ADATA SE730 is furiously fast portable SSD drive with latest USB 3.1 Gen 2 and uses premium MLC Flash for long-lasting durability. It’s also very rugged. It meets IP68 water and dust proof requirements and military-spec shock proofing. Light and compact, it easily fits in one hand and is effortless to carry whether you’re working, traveling or gaming. It expensive than a lot of portable SSDs at the same capacity, but it well worth the price if you need speedy and durable external solid state drive (SSD).
