Philips Sonicare Flexcare Platinum Rechargeable Electric Toothbrush with UV Sanitizer

Written by

Philips Sonicare FlexCare Platinum with UV Sanitizer, one of Philips’s premium range electric toothbrushes which offer 10x more plaque removal vs. a manual toothbrush. FlexCare Platinum’s unique design helps you achieve an invigorating clean like you’ve never felt before. Philips Sonicare features patented sonic technology that uses dynamic cleaning action to drive fluid between teeth, gently and effectively removing plaque along the gum line. In independent dental tests, the Philips Sonicare FlexCare Platinum performed excellently at removing plaque.

The platinum is a unique specimen among its peers. No other brush offers quite the same level of control, nor such a wide variety of included extras. Design-wise, simple and intuitive, the Platinum sports a clean look, dominated by its abundance of controls. The handle is made of mostly white plastic save for the faux metallic strip running along its face. There’s a patch of texture along the rear, improving the Platinum’s grip when wet. The Platinum’s body is slab-like, without any ergonomic tapering. It’s not most comfortable brush to use, but you won’t get any problems while holding it.

We found its construction to be solid overall and the brush had no issues surviving small drops and the wear of daily use. The Philips Sonicare FlexCare Platinum uses Philips’s most common brush head mount system, which has two advantages. The first is that Philips produces a wide variety of bush heads, the majority of which the Platinum is compatible with. The second benefit is that because the replacement heads are so commonly available, prices should be reasonable nearby.

The Philips Sonicare FlexCare Platinum allows you to choose your preferred cleaning mode and intensity depending on your needs. Choose from Clean, White, or Deep Clean modes, and Low, Medium or High-intensity settings to ensure you have the most comfortable brushing experience. It features 3 brush modes, a pressure sensor, and a timer. There are two buttons and a rocker on the handle for controls. The larger button up top serves as the on/off switch. The rocker in the middle allows you to control the brush mode intensity by three levels. And the small button below is used to change brush modes. The Platinum starts off in Clean and can be cycled through its remaining modes: White and Gum Care. There’s a trio of green LEDs for displaying charge level, brush mode and brushing intensity, for a total of 9 indicator lights. There’s no specific tongue-cleaning mode, but you can simply switch to a less intensive speed when cleaning your tongue.

Impressive battery life – it kept going on one charge (after a full 24-hour charge) for over three weeks, better than any other electric toothbrush we have tested. The Platinum’s battery lasts 70 minutes, which equates to 35, 2-minute brushing sessions or roughly 2 and a half weeks of typical use (two minutes of brushing, twice a day). Because FlexCare Platinum can last three weeks between charges, you won’t need a charger for most of your travels. A deluxe travel case, two hygienic travel caps, and multi-voltage travel charger are included for further on-the-go convenience.

The Platinum comes with: a brush head, carry case and the UV charger. The UV charger is undeniably large. It does, however, make up for its size by preforming two jobs. The right-hand side of the cleaner serves as the charger. Dock the handle on the plastic pin and the Platinum refills its battery. The second function, on the unit’s left, is a UV sanitizer. Pop open the shielded door, place up to two brush heads inside and turn it on. As the cleaner works its magic, a green light can be seen glowing from the viewport. The cleaning cycle runs for 10 minutes and kills the bacteria caught in-between bristles. The UV light does not remove any physical debris. That still needs to be done with running water. The unit can perform both of these jobs, charging the handle and cleaning two brush heads, simultaneously. And the 4-foot long power cable should reach any available outlets.

The Platinum’s travel case is made of hard-walled, white plastic. It has room inside for the brush handle and two brush heads. It’s perforated in multiple areas, allowing any trapped moisture to drain and evaporate, preventing any bacteria or mildew from accumulating. While the travel case doesn’t look very spectacular or use any premium feeling materials, its construction is pretty decent, even down to the plastic, mechanical latch. The case does its job of protecting the brush, well. And that’s what matters. It’s essentially a hunk of tough plastic and it had no issues surviving in my luggage and backpack while traveling.

The Philips Sonicare FlexCare Platinum does its job really well in order to removing plaque with ease. It also gently teaching you a better oral hygiene regime for less pressure and less scrubbing. It works without needing a charge every few days like some electric toothbrushes. The battery life is really impressive, it can go on for weeks. Pick it at a good price and you’ll be happy with spending on such a premium electric toothbrush.
